Local History Resources at the Library

The Belmont County District Library offers the local history & family history researcher a variety of resources. We offer local newspaper coverage on microfilm back to the early 1900's. You will find census data on microfilm, CD-ROM and online.

Martins Ferry High School Yearbooks - we have the 1909 through 2012 (missing 2009, 2012-2014, and 2016-2019) yearbooks. We are always happy to accept donations of yearbooks.

The Martins Ferry Public Library Local History and Genealogy Reference section offers the researcher many resources.  Some of the books are also available in the regular collection and can be checked out for 3 weeks.  The local history collection contains books that are specific to Belmont County. The collection is organized into sections including Cemetery Records, Family History, City Directories, Obituaries and Marriage and Death Records.  You will also find books focusing on area communities and organizations. The collection also contains books helpful to Ohio historians and general researchers.

Digital Photo Archives

The Digital Shoebox collection contains thousands of historical photographs, full-text images of books and memorabilia. The Digital Shoe box brings these historical treasures together in a searchable online scrapbook. The Digital Shoebox is a gateway to primary source materials relating to the rich history and culture of southeastern Ohio—the “start of it all.”
